Start dateJanuary 2026 or thereafter, fixed for 12 months
Application deadline10.11.2025
Scope of workfull-time
We are a young research group with a passion for f-element chemistry and are searching for a postdoctoral research associate to join our team. The project and position is funded for 12 months through a stipend by the Karl-Ziegler-foundation (2500 €/month), which is administered by the German Chemical Society (GDCh). We strongly encourage further fellowship/grant applications during the project and will support you in proposal writing.
Our lab is well-equipped for synthetic molecular chemistry and the University of Hamburg offers exciting opportunities for collaborations within the Department of Chemistry and beyond.
Hamburg is a highly livable and international city in northern Germany offering a rich cultural life and countless options to get active. It is well connected by trains and the airport.
Your responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
You will design and synthesise new homo- and heterobimetallic uranium complexes and study their reactivity in the activation of small molecules, such as N2, CO or CO2. This includes ligand synthesis, the synthesis of suitable uranium and transition metal precursors and the spectroscopic and crystallographic characterisation of new complexes and reaction products.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.
This position requires a strong background in air-sensitive synthetic molecular chemistry (Schlenk line/glovebox techniques). Experience in f-element chemistry, coordination chemistry and/or spectroscopy is of additional advantage. A good working knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of German is helpful, but no prerequisite.
Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence is one of the strongest research educational institutions in Germany. Our work in research, teaching, educational and knowledge exchange activities is fostering the next generation of responsible global citizens ready to tackle the global challenges facing us. Our guiding principle “Innovating and Cooperating for a Sustainable Future in a digital age” drives collaboration with academic and nonacademic partner institutions in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and around the world. We would like to invite you to be part of our community to work with us in creating sustainable and digital change for a dynamic and pluralist society.
