Head of Strategy and Business Development

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the strategic direction of the ABB Electrification Smart Buildings division by partnering closely with its Business Lines and senior leadership. You will lead high-impact strategic initiatives and complex business development projects that drive sustainable growth, enhance competitive positioning, and support long-term value creation. Your work will directly influence strategic planning processes and contribute to the division overall business transformation agenda.


You will also support the Division President on executive communication. You will be reporting to Smart Building Global Head of Strategy & BD.


Location: Europe, with a preference for countries such as Switzerland, Italy, France and Germany.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to the definition and execution of the Division and Business Lines’ global strategy by leading high-level market, customer, and competitive analyses. Translate complex data into actionable insights that shape long-term strategic, operational, and sustainability priorities. Identify, structure, and lead/support (depending on size) transformative strategic and M&A initiatives (e.g. geographic expansion, filling product line gaps, digital venture creation, sustainability acceleration), ensuring alignment with division objectives and cross-functional integration across the organization. Define and lead/support the inorganic growth roadmap for our Business Lines. Oversee/support the overall process (from opportunity identification and strategic fit assessment to deal execution and post-merger integration) with a high degree of autonomy and strategic judgment. Lead/support the development of forward-looking market intelligence frameworks to uncover growth opportunities and anticipate industry /division shifts. Optimize the use of global data sources to inform strategic decisions and investment priorities. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by crafting high-impact executive communications and board-level presentations. Distill complex strategies into compelling narratives that influence internal and external stakeholders. Collaborating with all related internal contacts to ensure alignment, efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation of the respective global business strategy. Coordinating and coaching more junior resources and colleagues from other functions on strategy-related topics Living ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in business, Science, or Engineering from a top institution; MBA from a leading business school preferred. Minimum 10 years in consulting, investment banking, private equity, or corporate strategy/business development. Good understanding of sectors like Buildings, Automation, Electrification, IoT, Digital Software, and manufacturing operations. Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional projects; excellent communication and presentation skills. Analytical, creative, self-driven team player with strong leadership skills; fluent in English, other languages a plus.
