Free-Space Laser Communication Specialist (UAV Applications) (f/m/d)
We are looking for a
Free-Space Laser Communication Specialist
with strong system engineering and project management experience. In this role, you will focus on enabling high-speed free-space optical links for
unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms
, where performance, reliability, and robustness against environmental factors are of critical importance.
What You’ll Do
Define system requirements and architectures for UAV-based free-space optical communication links.
Lead trade studies, system-level analyses, and design reviews.
Perform research work with simulations, measurements, literature research; calculate link budgets including atmospheric effects; research new technical approaches.
Take an active role in project and product management, leading projects but also being part of the project team; manage development milestones, from early prototypes to flight-ready subsystems.
Coordinate efforts across optical, electrical, mechanical, and UAV engineering teams.
Support building, integrating, and testing optical communication prototypes in the lab and in the field.
Provide technical leadership, ensuring projects stay on track with performance and schedule goals.Develop embedded
real-time control software
for our advanced laser terminal systems
What You Bring
Education:
Master’s or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
Experience:
At least 5-10 years of experience in free-space optical communications or related optical system development.
In-depth understanding of laser communication theory, modulation, coding, and link budgets, atmospheric effects, pointing, acquisition, and tracking (PAT) systems, etc.
Demonstrated skills in leading projects.
Excellent English communication skills, working level of German would be desirable.
