The Role

We’re looking for a sharp, curious, and hands-on Working Student to join the Finches Tech Team. If you want to be right in the engine room of an early-stage startup, this is your shot. You won’t be fetching coffee - you’ll be building the plane while it’s flying.

As a hybrid Software/Data Engineer (Working Student), you’ll work directly with the Tech Team on what matters most for product development - day by day, priority by priority. Your role is dynamic and high-impact. Expect to:

Build data connections between external services and our data and AI platform Design, develop, and deploy scalable data pipelines Help keep our technical tools and workflows organised and well documented Actively contribute to the development of our engineering culture and best practices in the team
This is a front-row seat to the 0 to 1 journey - and a chance to directly shape how a startup is built.

What You Bring

You don’t need a stacked CV - but you do need brains, drive, and a “figure it out” mindset. We’re looking for someone who:

Is currently enrolled in a Master’s program (IT, tech, data science or data engineering - we care more about mindset than your major) and have completed your Bachelors at a German university Is genuinely excited about startups, B2B SaaS, and building from scratch Thinks clearly, works fast, and gets things done without hand-holding Has experience implementing data quality checks, validation rules, and reconciliation processes within ETL pipelines to ensure data accuracy and reliability Understands Python for data manipulation Has a foundational understanding of data integration principles, connecting data from various sources (APIs, databases) and web data extraction. Can demonstrate a basic understanding of data models and how to connect datasets from different formats (e.g., JSON, CSV, SQL tables). Knows how to work with Git Has a proven ability to problem-solve & debug Likes to write clean, efficient, and well-documented code Has excellent communication skills (English mandatory) Is aligned with our core principles of humbleness, openness, fairness, curiosity, customer-centricity, and an impact-driven mindset
