(senior) Software Engineer (build Systems & Backend Platform) (f/m/x)

Dresden, SN, DE, Germany

Job Description

About elevait
The mission of elevait is to turn data into strategic knowledge through a scalable platform that automates, validates, and connects information. Serving sectors like Energy, Finance, and the Public Sector, we enable confident decisions through enterprise-grade document intelligence. Our Dresden-based engineering team prioritizes modular ownership and collaborative design over silos. We focus on building the "Golden Path" for resilient software, bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI services and code-first orchestration.

Your Role
You won’t just be a "DevOps person" on the sidelines—you’ll be a core backend engineer who helps us modernize our build and release processes. You’ll take ownership of our CI/CD pipelines, ensuring our transition from Apache NiFi to a Python-based orchestration layer is smooth, fast, and transparent.
We’re not looking for someone who already knows everything. Instead, we want a curious, motivated engineer who is excited by the challenge of improving our systems, eager to learn, and willing to help us leave behind outdated processes.
You’ll have the chance to:Lead the modernization of our CI/CD world, with support to learn and grow. Collaborate with our infrastructure team to implement Helm-based deployments and FluxCD synchronization. Contribute to backend development, whether it’s building new APIs or improving our orchestration layer. Act as a "Product Owner" for developer experience, identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions.

What You Will DoStandardize the Lifecycle: Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines, or similar) for linting, testing, Docker image creation, and security scanning. We’ll support you in learning our tools and improving them. Infrastructure-as-Code: Maintain and evolve Helm charts for our core services. Experience with Kubernetes and GitOps is a plus, but we’ll help you get up to speed. Quality Engineering: Integrate automated testing (unit, integration, E2E) into our release flow. Your ideas for improving quality are welcome! Feature Development: Write clean, maintainable code in Python (and occasionally Java) to contribute to our platform’s processing and orchestration.

? Your Skills & Mindset

We’re looking for:

You have a solid track record of taking software from code to production and understand the architectural principles behind scalable backend systems. CI/CD Experience: You’ve worked with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI. If you’re familiar with Jenkins and Bitbucket, great—but we’re open to your ideas for improvement. Backend Engineering: Strong Python skills are important, as it’s the future of our orchestration layer. Java experience is a plus, but not required. Cloud-Native Curiosity: Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, or Helm is helpful, but we’ll support your learning if you’re new to these tools. T-Shaped Mindset: You’re happy to dive into new areas, whether it’s a database migration, REST API design, or CI/CD optimization. English Fluency: Our team is diverse, and clear communication is key.

Above all, we value:

A willingness to learn and modernize legacy systems. A collaborative, no-ego attitude—architecture is a team sport here. A passion for automation, quality, and developer experience.

What You Can Expect at elevaitFocus over Chaos: We limit active projects per sprint so the team can finish what they start. No-Ego Architecture: You’ll collaborate with architects and teammates to design the best solutions. Direct Impact: Your decisions will shape how we build and release software, directly influencing the speed and quality of the entire company. Growth Opportunities: We’ll invest in your learning, whether it’s Kubernetes, Python, or CI/CD best practices.

Why We Think This Role Is Exciting
This role is perfect for someone who wants to:Work at the intersection of backend development and DevOps. Help modernize legacy systems and shape the future of our platform. Learn new technologies and grow their skills in a supportive environment. Have a real impact on how our company delivers software.
