Scientist (m/f/d)

Hamburg, HH, DE, Germany

Job Description

Indivumed is a biotech company focusing on precision oncology. For almost 25 years, we have been driven by a single, overarching vision: a world in which precision therapy offers a cure for every cancer patient.

Specialized in early drug discovery, our R&D approach is based on the belief that we need to fundamentally understand the disease to gain novel insights and develop effective therapeutics. To do so, we start with carefully collected and curated patient samples, resulting in a comprehensive and proprietary database. By employing advanced biomathematical and bioinformatic methods on this excellent data, we discover therapeutically novel targets. From our high-quality tissue, we generate patient-derived 2D and 3D cellular models allowing us to perform target validation and therapeutic development in an environment that is as close to the patient as possible.

Drive, dedication, and our shared purpose make us who we are.

Driven by our pioneering spirit and our shared purpose, we explore the complexity of cancer with curiosity and determination. Thriving on innovation, we value unique perspectives and visionary scientific approaches to grow together. Whether as a scientist, as a data analyst, or in a corporate function – everyone contributes to our common goal.

If you thrive on discovery, come join our team and make your impact as

Scientist Flow Cytometry (m/f/d)

Your responsibilities:

We are looking for a Senior Scientist who will take ownership of flow cytometry-based antibody discovery and characterization. This role will be central to building and strengthening our flow cytometry capability. You will act as the in-house expert, responsible for establishing robust workflows, implementing high-throughput screening strategies, and driving data quality and reproducibility across the team.

A key focus will be developing and optimizing scalable flow-based assays to screen hybridoma supernatants and antibody candidates against priority cancer surface targets. You will also build and run functional flow assays to support mechanism-of-action studies, including CDC, ADCC, receptor internalization and other immune-oncology readouts.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, refining assays, mentoring others, and building a best-in-class flow cytometry unit from the ground up. You should be comfortable leading assay development, training colleagues, and ensuring high standards for data generation and interpretation while working collaboratively across scientific teams.

Your tasks:

Serve as the primary expert for advanced multi-color flow cytometry (BD Fortessa), providing technical leadership and hands-on support across projects. Perform and document all instrument maintenance, including daily QC, calibration, compensation, and troubleshooting to ensure consistent, high-quality data output. Develop, maintain, and enforce SOPs for flow cytometry workflows, including panel design, antibody titration, sample preparation, staining, acquisition, and data analysis. Train and mentor internal users on best practices in instrument operation, experimental design, sample handling, and data interpretation. Design, optimize, and execute, train/ delegate high-throughput (96/384-well) flow-based screening assays to identify and rank monoclonal antibodies from hybridoma supernatants. Establish protocols for flow cytometry-based studies of receptor internalization, down-regulation, and shedding. Establish protocols for comprehensive immunophenotyping and functional flow-based assays, including cell viability, cell cycle analysis, cytokine profiling, and other high-content readouts. Develop, validate, perform, and eventually train others / delegate immunological and cell-based functional assays to characterize antibody candidates, including CDC and ADCC assays using flow cytometry. Independently analyze and interpret complex datasets using FlowJo, train others to use the software and communicate findings clearly to cross-functional teams. Collaborate to support assay development and scientific decision-making. Maintain meticulous electronic lab records and service documentation to ensure traceability, compliance, and reproducibility. Stay current with emerging flow cytometry technologies, reagents, and analytical approaches and implement improvements to enhance lab capability.

Our requirements:

PhD in Immunology, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, or a related discipline. Solid understanding of flow cytometry principles, sample preparation, and multi-color panel optimization. Extensive hands-on experience with flow cytometry including panel design, compensation, multicolor analysis, and complex gating strategies, troubleshooting, maintenance of the flow cytometer. Experience with high throughput flow cytometry acquisition and analysis is required Proven expertise in working with monoclonal antibody characterization against cell surface targets and analysis of receptor internalization/shedding. Solid understanding of cancer immunology and experience developing functional assays such as ADCC, CDC, or immune checkpoint assays. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver results to deadlines Clear and effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
