Researcher (PostDoc) – spectroscopy & chemometrics (all genders welcome)

to be filled. Starting date is as soon as possible. The position is limited for a fixed-term of two years.




About us:

As a research-oriented division of the Department of Animal Science, we work primarily on sustainable, consumer-oriented and socially acceptable ways for the production of food of animal origin. The focus is on nutritional, sensory and technological quality assessment. We have modern laboratories for the physico-chemical characterization of food, including HPLC, GC-FID and GC-MS, texture analysis, NIR and MIR spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging and a modern sensory laboratory. Current research addresses, for example, the preservation of genetic diversity in farm animals, the use of alternative feedstuffs to avoid feed/food competition, climate change mitigation, and the improvement of animal welfare during husbandry and slaughter.




What we offer:

agricultural applications of benchtop and mobile near- and mid-infrared spectroscopy including FT-IR microscopy and hyperspectral imaging

. This includes but is not limited to the fields of product quality and authenticity, animal health and welfare, and sustainable animal feeding strategies. You will have freedom to further develop your personal portfolio and skills, and your further scientific qualification (i.e., habilitation) is desired and actively supported. This also includes the opportunity to take part in the university didactics certificate course. The position allows quite flexible working hours including the option of mobile work. There is the option of an additional company pension scheme (VBL) and you will receive various employee benefits. Lower Saxony also offers the possibility of educational leave (5d/calendar year). Job profile:

In this position you will mainly set up and conduct laboratory and field experiments related to vibrational spectroscopy including data analysis, develop laboratory protocols, participate in teaching activities at B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. level, (co-)supervise B.Sc., M.Sc. and doctoral students, and contribute to developing new project proposals.

Recruitment requirements

are: a doctorate/Ph.D., at least three years of hands-on experience in the field of vibrational spectroscopy and/or chemometrics as evidenced by your publication record, a relevant M.Sc. degree (e.g., in food or analytical chemistry, agricultural or food sciences, or data science) achieved with a minimum of a good pass, and good to very good command of English which is required for effective communication within the team and for publications.




Desirable qualifications

are initial experience in project management and basic knowledge in the field of (food) analysis. Experience in university teaching and supervision of students is also desirable, as is a basic command of German (B2 level).
