The Hub of Computing and Data Science (HCDS) is a competence unit for research and forms the core element for the central support of digitalization and digital transformation in research at the University of Hamburg.


Your responsibilities


Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications. They may also pursue doctoral studies outside of working duties.



In the project "Mittelniederdeutsche Grammatik", you will research and develop computational aspects of providing a grammar for a historic language variant online. This encompasses the following steps:



conceptualize and implement a multi-tier architecture

computerlinguistic processing of relevant corpora for linguistic indexing

datamanagement and modelling

user- and role-centered visualizations

conceptualization and implementation of interfaces

web-based access and identity management


This position is subject to the decision of the Joint Science Conference (GWK) on the Academies' Program 2026 on 28 November 2025, which includes the approval of funding for the long-term project "Mittelniederdeutsche Grammatik" applied for with the starting date 01.01.2026.


Your profile


A university degree in a relevant field.


experience in Computational Linguistics, esp. modelling of linguistic levels experience in one or more of the following areas: + datamanagement and modelling
+ software engineering, especially web architectures
+ representation of knowledge and large linguistic corpora
+ data visualization
+ historic language variants of German
very good command of written and spoken English and German strong social and communication skills, initiative, motivation, high sense of responsibility, ability to work in a team and very good organizational skills We offer
