The Cluster of Excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society” (CLICCS) investigates climate dynamics and climate-related social dynamics, as well as the interactions between the two. To this end, we are looking for colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, including the natural sciences as well as the social sciences. Your responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
conducting studies of news and social media content related to contested issues in the context of mitigating and adapting to climate change. Coordination and management of the project “Contested Climate Futures: Discoursive Powerplay in the Media”
contributing to project development under supervision of project leaders
contributing to the overall interdisciplinary synthesis of the cluster of excellence CLICCS
Especially:
conducting and combining automated and manual quantitative and qualitative content analysis
developing and (co-)authoring articles to be published in international academic journals. Presenting research at international conferences
management tasks (e.g., oversight of budget, organization of cooperation between PhD researchers, workshop organization)
contribute to synthesis papers of the overall CLICCS project
The research associate may also support teaching or MA student supervision if related to the research project and engage more broadly in the academic life at the cluster of excellence and in climate-related communication and media research in the social sciences at University of Hamburg.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.
Expected: an above average PhD in journalism/communication science; research expertise in climate communication or in advanced computational social sciences (esp. automated text analysis), experience in publishing in international academic communication and media research journals, excellent knowledge of English, working knowledge of German, skills in empirical social science methods and programming in R/Python, ability and willingness to proactively work in an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated experience in project management is advantageous.
