The Chair of Roman History of the Seminar of Ancient History in the Faculty of History and Philosophy at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

commencing on 1 October 2025. We are offering a fixed-term full-time position (100%) for 3 years. There is the possibility of extending the position depending on the legal possibilities. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during each semester.



Your tasks:

This position is tied to working towards an independent research project within the scope of a second book (monograph). There is the possibility to do a formal Habilitation. collaboration in research and teaching participation in self-administration organisation of events providing students with subject-related expertise and instruction on applying scientific methods

Our expectations:

An outstanding PhD in Ancient History or Classical Studies (PhD thesis must be submitted) is required. One area of research must fall within Roman history. Substantiated knowledge of Roman epigraphy or women’s history in antiquity is welcomed. Experience in teaching is required. German language skills up (up to the level B2) are a requirement or must be acquired within the first 12 months on the post. Enthusiasm for academic work and commitment to research Soft skills (team-oriented, good communication skills, organisational skills, can work independently)
