We are one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe and one of the most important employers in our region.
Our broad range of subjects, the dynamic development of our main research areas and our central location in Cologne
make us attractive for students and researchers from around the world. We offer a wide range of career opportunities in
science, technology, and administration.
We offer a postdoctoral research position (f/m/x) In the
Statistical Physics and Quantitative Biology group (PI
Michael Lässig) at the Institute for Biological Physics, Uni-
versity of Cologne (Germany). This is an opportunity for an
exceptionally qualified physicist to work on cutting-edge
topics in evolution. Our work is focused on predictive
analysis of viral and cancer systems, based on biophysical
and immunological molecular models. Current empirical
projects include evolution and control of fast-evolving
viruses (influenza, SARS-CoV-2) and the immunogenicity
of cancer cell populations. Applicants should have a strong
background in statistical physics and a genuine interest
in evolutionary biology and in data analysis of complex
dynamical systems. For more details, see the lab website
https://www.thp.uni-koeln.de/~lassig.
Our group is funded by the ERC and embedded in the
Collaborative Research Center Predictability in Evolution, a
leading consortium in experimental and theoretical studies
of evolutionary processes. It offers an exciting interdis-
ciplinary research environment at the interface between
physics and quantitative biology.
