Full Professor (W3)


in Next-Generation Computing for


Quantum and Molecular Systems


at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural


Sciences





We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of


next-generation computing for quantum and molecular systems, to be


filled as soon as possible. The mathematical research focuses on the in-

terface between computational analysis of quantum and molecular sys-

tems and modern high-performance computing. Topics of particular in-

terest include computational methods for many-body quantum systems


and for quantum materials, quantum information and quantum compu-

ting, exascale and hybrid modalities in high-performance computing, ap-

plications of such techniques in large-scale optimization problems, mo-

lecular dynamics and stochastic many-particle systems, as well as ma-

chine learning in atomistic simulations. Excellent applications with differ-

ent, but relevant research profiles with focus on related topics are also


welcome. Candidates should also have a successful track record of ac-

quisition of third party funding.




Active participation in existing research programs such as Collaborative


Research Center 1481 "Sparsity and Singular Structures” as well as in


interdisciplinary cooperations, for example within the Jülich-Aachen Re-

search Alliance, are desirable. Adequate participation in the teaching du-

ties of the Department of Mathematics is expected.




The requirements include a doctoral degree and additional research ex-

perience, such as a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) or


equivalent achievements gained as a university researcher or professor or


in a research position outside academia. Teaching ability and dedication


are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent Ger-

man is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will


be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.
