With around 16,000 students and 3,800 employees, the Technische Universität Braunschweig is one of Germany´s leading institutes of technology. It stands for strategic and performance-oriented thinking and acting, relevant research, committed teaching, and the successful transfer of knowledge and technologies to the economy and society. We consistently advocate for family friendliness and equal opportunities.
Our research focuses are mobility, engineering for health, metrology, and city of the future. Strong engineering and natural sciences are our core disciplines. These are closely interconnected with economics, social and educational sciences and humanities.
Our campus is located in the midst of one of the most research-intensive regions in Europe. We work successfully together with over 20 research institutions in our neighbourhood as we do with our international partner universities.
Starting from the earliest possible date, the Institute for Acoustics and Dynamics is looking for a
Doctoral Candidate (m/f/d): Acoustics-oriented design with a focus on computational acoustics
(EG 13 TV-L, full-time)
The position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis for a period of 3 years. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.
As the Institute for Acoustics and Dynamics, we conduct research with three professorships in a broad field in the areas of sound propagation and noise assessment, uncertainty quantification and non-linear dynamics and friction. In the field of acoustics, we work primarily in the area of modelling and simulation of acoustic fields and the evaluation of the effect of sound on humans. Our experimental methods enable us to validate the computations in a wide range from structure-borne sound to airborne sound and sound propagation in porous media.
As part of the work at the institute, research in the field of computational acoustics as an enabler for acoustics-oriented design will be carried out. A key aspect of acoustics-oriented design and Design to Acoustics is that acoustics are taken into account in all phases of product development, on an equal footing with all other disciplines that define relevant requirements. This is particularly challenging, because it is very difficult to predict the acoustic properties in the very early stages of product development, as many details, such as the geometric dimensions or the materials to be used, have not yet been determined - but they have a significant influence on the expected acoustic properties. An integral, holistic approach is therefore necessary, which can successively specify the modelling, simulation and prediction of the acoustic properties in parallel with the detailing of the design.
