Director Of Computational Biology In Neuroscience & Mental Health

Ulm, BW, DE, Germany

Job Description

Retained Search | Director of Computational Innovation – Neuroscience & Mental Health

KEMIO Consulting has been exclusively retained to identify a visionary

Director of Computational Biology

to lead computational strategy within the Neuroscience & Mental Health (N&MH) Therapeutic Area at a global pharmaceutical leader.
This is a pivotal and high-visibility role shaping how next-generation mental health therapeutics are discovered — not by addressing disease-level pathology, but by targeting symptoms and patient stratification to enable precision psychiatry.

The Mission

Traditional neuropsychiatric drug development is limited not by targets, but by the inability to predict who will respond. This role transforms that paradigm.
You will lead an integrated computational effort spanning

early discovery ? translational medicine ? Phase IIb

, building a framework for

biotypes, digital/imaging biomarkers, and patient subgroups

that link biological signal to therapeutic outcome.

You will inspire and lead

Computational strategy across the Neuroscience & Mental Health TA Multimodal integration:

genetics/omics + imaging (EEG/MEG/fMRI) + digital/activity data

Biomarker and patient stratification science for precision N&MH Scientific leadership across translational and clinical interfaces Team scaling (internal FTEs + CRO/innovation partners) Impact on flagship programmes (e.g., PRISM-2) and New Therapeutic Concepts (NTCs)

What Success Looks Like

Turning heterogeneous patient populations into

defined, stratifiable biotypes

Developing clinically relevant biomarkers for motivation, cognition, emotional imbalance, impulsivity, and related symptom domains*
Building a computational function that changes decision-makingin the clinic Partnering with therapeutic and clinical leaders as a true peer — not as a service function

The Person We Are Looking For

Scientific & Technical

Deep experience in computational neuroscience / computational biology Strong ML/AI capability applied to imaging or activity-based biomarkers Fluent in multimodal data fusion (omics + imaging + behavioural/digital)

Translational Mindset

Thinks in patient outcomes*, not abstract modelling
Understands the difference between

symptom targeting vs. disorder pathology

Comfortable with real-world data constraints in psychiatric indications

Leadership

Can set computational direction and influence at TA leadership level Builds high-performing teams and external networks Operates credibly across research, translational medicine and clinical development

This role will resonate with someone who:

Has worked at the interface of computational science and patient biology Has either exposure to clinical / neuroimaging studies

or hybrid clinical-scientific training

Wants to drive the

future model of personalised psychiatry

Is motivated by scientific complexity + real-world patient impact
