Bioinformatician (m/f/d)

The Institute of Virology and the Institute for Infection Prevention and Control are looking for a bioinformatician (m/f/d) for a project, which is part of the Network University Medicine (NUM). The aim of the project is to develop whole-genome sequencing methods for the detection and characterization of norovirus in clinical samples and subsequent bioinformatic analyses. We are looking for an experienced bioinformatician ideally with laboratory skills.

Responsibilities:
Development and establishment of a whole-genome sequencing workflow for norovirus
Development and implementation of bioinformatic algorithms and software tools
Support of clinical research projects
Presentation of results internally and externally
Presentation of results as publications in scientific journals and interim reports
Required skills:
PhD in a relevant subject area (Bioinformatics, Biology, Informatics)
knowledge in virology is desirable
skills in molecular analytics (particularly next-generation sequencing technology) and bioinformatic analyses (mapping, variant calling, de novo assemblies, phylogenies)
very good knowledge of one or more programming languages (e.g. python, R, Java), workflow systems (snakemake/nextflow), and unix systems
Team spirit and communication skills
interest in interdisciplinary research and clinical applications
The position is initially limited to 2 years.
