The Mercedes-Benz Group AG is one of the most successful automotive companies in the world. Together with Mercedes-Benz AG, the vehicle manufacturer is one of the largest providers of premium and luxury cars and vans.
In our Logistics Engineering Technologies & Advanced Logistics team, we work at ARENA2036, a research association on the campus of the University of Stuttgart, on pioneering robotics solutions for intralogistics. As part of the RoX research project, we are working with partners from industry and research to develop a flexible bin picking system for automated assembly pre-picking. We offer you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art robotics hardware in a collegial team with flexible working hours and to gain deep insights into an innovative research project with leading partners from industry and research.
You will master these tasks:

  • Development and integration of AI-based grasp generation methods for our bin picking system
  • Collaboration on scientific publications in the field of intelligent perception for robotics systems
The position can be filled starting in November 2025.
Qualifications
  • Degree program in computer science, electromobility, or a comparable degree program
  • Proficient spoken and written English skills
  • Strong experience in robotic bin-picking, grasp planning and manipulation strategies for robotic applications
  • Hands-on expertise in 3D point cloud processing, computer vision and robotics systems
  • Proficiency in Python and commonly used libraries such as Open3D, NumPy, PyTorch and OpenCV
  • Experience in designing and integrating end-to-end computer vision pipelines, including object detection, 6D pose estimation, grasp estimation, grasp selection and planning
  • Familiarity with Docker for containerized development and deployment
  • Understanding of robot kinematics, camera calibration and coordinate transformations
  • Experience working with depth cameras (e.g., Zivid, RealSense, Azure Kinect) and industrial robotic arms
  • Knowledge of Linux-based development environments and Git version control
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-functional robotics teams and contribute to system-level integration
  • Commitment and ability to work in a team
