THE POSITION
The MPI-M invites applications for a 3-year position as a
Postdoctoral Scientist (W-0054 | all genders)
within the CLICCS project to investigate the impact of tropical deforestation on precipitation under a warming climate making use of km-scale climate simulations.
The project aims to advance our fundamental understanding of the processes that control the tropical precipitation distribution, with a particular emphasis on the resilience of tropical precipitation to perturbations. To that aim, simulations will be conducted using the ICON Earth System Model in its Sapphire configuration, using a grid spacing of 10-km (or finer). Past research has shown that precipitation in this type of simulation is much more resilient to deforestation over the Amazon, at least in present-day climate, questioning the existence of a tipping behavior of the Amazon forest.
