The Role:
As VP Legal for the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), you will be the most senior legal representative for the market and lead the legal function across the region. The role ensures alignment with group legal strategy while delivering pragmatic, timely legal advice to support business objectives.
You will act as the primary legal adviser to the market leadership team, safeguard the organisation against legal risk, support strategic decision-making, and drive compliance and governance standards across operations. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and independent judgement.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Act as the primary and most senior legal adviser for the DACH market, with accountability for all local legal risk, governance and compliance matters.
Lead day-to-day legal operations for the DACH region; translate group legal strategy into practical delivery.
Monitor, assess and manage legal risks within remit; ensure issues are addressed through appropriate controls or escalation and exercise final local judgement on risk decisions, escalating when necessary to the Central Legal team.
Advise senior leaders within the DACH region and challenge risk decisions where intervention is required as a core member of the local leadership team.
Oversee use of external counsel in the DACH region; ensure quality and manage cost against budget.
Support budget planning and resource management in their area; ensure efficiency and accurate tracking.
Act as primary legal partner to regional leadership, supporting timely and pragmatic legal advice across all material commercial, regulatory and strategic initiatives in the market.
Manage and own relationships with key regulators, authorities and external stakeholders in the jurisdiction and lead responses to regulatory matters, investigations and enforcement activity.
What You’ll Bring:
Expertise in commercial contracts, compliance, and regulatory frameworks within a complex, highly regulated, multinational environment. Experience with respect to corporate law also desirable.
Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills; ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships at Executive level.
Proven ability to lead legal teams, manage performance, and develop talent.
Significant experience in senior legal roles within multinational organizations; exposure to cross-border transactions and regulatory environments with prior responsibility as the most senior legal representative in a country or business unit strongly preferred.
Law degree (LLB or equivalent); admission to practice in Germany; additional qualifications (e.g., MBA) desirable.
