The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) addresses crucial scientific questions in the fields of global change, climate impacts and sustainable development. For the GENIE Project in the Evidence for Climate Solutions Group PIK, located at EUREF Campus in Berlin-Schöneberg, is offering several positions as



Student assistants in carbon removal research (m/f/d)





(Position number: 36-2025 SHK GENIE)



starting in January 2026.



The position

is funded for

up to 16 months

. The remuneration is determined according to the guidelines of the TdL. The current hourly rate for a student assistant with a Bachelor's degree is 14,59 € (without a Bachelor's degree 13,98 €). We offer 2 to 4 part-time position with a weekly working time of 10 to 20 hours per week. Appointment is conditional on approval by the funding agency.



Key responsibilities:




Assist researchers in the project on their analyses of carbon removal and climate mitigation policies, innovation, and public perceptions in particular, this includes:
support the production of systematic literature maps and reviews through data collection and synthesis annotating datasets for the evaluation of machine-learning classifiers creating data visualizations for scientific publications supporting the writing of publications and reports.

You are a Bachelor or Master student, enrolled at a German university, and ideally meet the following requirements:



background in environmental science, geography, economics, computer science, quantitative social or political science, physics, ecology or related fields knowledge of climate research ability to solve problems in a scientific context using data Strong coding skills for data analysis and visualization (for instance in python) are an asset. Previous experience in carbon removal, climate policy assessment, innovation studies, evidence synthesis or bibliometrics is an asset.
