Scope full time and for a maximum of three years
The Institute for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems (ACPS) is seeking to fill a full position in the DFG-funded resarch project "Scalable Acoustic Backscatter Systems in Metal Structures." This project takes the concept of acoustic backscatter communication, already investigated by us, further and scales it up to larger structures and networks of multiple co-located devices. It aims to develop novel protocols for device discovery, routing, and medium access control (MAC), all optimized for the unique challenges of acoustic signal propagation through metal and wireless power transfer. The position is designed for pursuing a thematically related doctoral project (Ph.D.).
It is expected that the Ph.D. student presents scientific results at international conferences. Involvement in the institute's teaching activities is possible.
YOUR TASKS
Design of communication methods and protocols (particularly ISO/OSI layers 1 and 2) for acoustic backscatter
Design and implementation of embedded software and hardware for acoustic backscatter tags
Development of simulation software for scientific evaluation
Planning, execution, and evaluation of scientific real-world experiments
Writing of scientific papers and presentation of results at conferences and other scientific events
YOUR PROFILE
Requirements
Completed scientific university studies, in particular in the subject of Computer Science or Communications Engineering
Required knowledge and personal skills
Profound knowledge in communications engineering
Knowledge in wireless networking
Advanced, practical programming experience (in C, C++, Python)
Experience in Embedded Systems, ideally microcontroller programming (beneficial)
Experience in (analog) circuit design (beneficial)
