The successful candidate will join the atomic quantum many body systems group in order to perform experimental studies in quantum many body physics using ultracold strontium atoms. The candidate will be responsible to study at the single particle level strongly correlated phases of SU(N) lattice fermions. New methods to manipulate, cool and detect individual atoms and spins will be developed and characterized. Pionering experimental studies using this quantum gas microscope will be pursued in order to explore the interplay between doping and in the SU(N) Fermi-Hubbard model.

During the project the successful candidate will develop strong expertise in the following areas: quantum physics, data collection and analysis, lasers, optics, vacuum technology and electronics. Results will be reported both in peer-review scientific journals and in conferences. The candidate will benefit from the excellent infrastructures and outstanding environment at the Institute of Quantum Physics.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

The candidate is expected to have a strong background in quantum physics and quantum many-body physics supported by a Master degree in Physics. Several months of experimental work in an ultracold atom laboratory including experience with the development of optical setups, laser frequency and power stabilization systems, vacuum systems, data analysis and numerical simulations are expected. The ability to perform numerical simulations of lattice quantum gases is a plus. In order to work in an international environment the position also requires the candidate to be fluent in English, and fluency in German is of advantage.
