at the earliest possible date. We offer part-time position (65%, 26 hours per week) a fixed-term position for 3 years.



You will work with X-ray diffraction and electron microscopic methods at the new Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry (CEEC II) and will also have the opportunity to conduct innovative time-resolved high-pressure experiments at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY. Your project will focus on the experimental simulation of impact events and the pressure-induced amorphization and polymorphic phase transformations of silicates that occur during these processes.


Your responsibilities:

Development of programs for evaluating comprehensive X-ray diffraction data After comprehensive training, you will conduct independently and as part of a team high-pressure experiments with diamond anvil cells and characterize the synthesized samples using X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic, and electron microscopic methods Presentation of your results at international conferences Publication of your results together with partners in internationally renowned journals As part of the project, you will have the opportunity to complete your doctorate

Your profile:

Successfully completed master´s degree in geosciences, materials science, physics, or chemistry You have programming skills in Python for evaluating large amounts of data You have basic knowledge of high-pressure processes as well as X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy Very good written and spoken English skills are required; good German skills are advantageous Your duties will require frequent travel to the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY and participation in scientific conferences in Germany and abroad

The advertised position is offered as a fixed-term position for a maximum of 3 years. The position is for the purpose of working on a fixed-term third-party funded project. This is a part-time position with 65% of the working hours of a full-time employee (26 hours per week).
