Your main tasks

Working on the research project "Development of an Automated Aquaculture Facility Management with Special Consideration of Animal Welfare, Water Consumption, and Water Quality - WaQuaReg". Participation in research and teaching within the SRS research fields.

The project is funded by the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung), with further partners including industrial companies and the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (Tierärtzliche Hochschule Hannover).


Within the framework of this sub-project, methods, and procedures are to be developed that enable active control of water quality, water and energy consumption in aquaculture systems.

Continuously recorded parameters will be adapted based on models or data to ensure efficient use of resources. The control concept is based on methods of real-time data analysis and model predictive optimization, where video and sensor data are also used to assess animal welfare. Initial tests may be carried out on model fish before transferring to juvenile pikeperch (Zander) in a near-production scale.


An interest in actively participating in an internationally-oriented research environment (German- and English-speaking) is essential. The position involves travel activities. Within the scope of the position, an opportunity for further scientific qualification (e.g., a PhD) is offered.


Your profile

Completed university degree (M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with a documented specialization in Control Engineering, System Theory, or Data-Based Methods/Filtering or Machine Learning Methods of at least 8 semesters. Excellent knowledge of Automation Technology or Control Engineering. Documentable intercultural competencies and experiences Reliable and documented English and German language skills (written and spoken) (German C1).
