München, BY, DE, Germany

Job Description

ABOUT REDDIE & GROSE LLP

Reddie & Grose LLP is an internationally renowned firm of European and United Kingdom patent, trade mark and design attorneys.

Our experienced team of over 100 IP professionals based in London, Cambridge, Munich and The Hague includes specialists in a wide range of technical disciplines. We offer services for a wide range of industries, with particular strengths in electronics and software, mechanical engineering, chemistry, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Our trade mark team provides specialist advice on branding and trade mark work; we also have a specialist team handling plant variety protection.

We handle the full range of IP rights for a global client base ranging from SMEs starting to consider IP through to large corporations with rights in over 100 countries. Our services range from investigating competing rights, handling oppositions, drafting and filing applications, and maintaining portfolios. We resolve disputes about IP, working closely with other leading legal firms if it becomes necessary to resort to the courts.

We understand work-life challenges and are sensitive to how work can impact your personal life. We respect this and will always encourage a good work-life balance. Our workplace is one where fairness, respect, equality and dignity are promoted and are part of the firm’s everyday goals and behaviour. There is a welcoming culture where we recognise that the different backgrounds, values, attitudes, skills and experience of our staff means they bring a unique perspective to work issues.

We are a team who excel at meeting our clients’ needs, proudly offering bespoke and high-quality services. Driven by continuous improvement and an unrelenting commitment to quality, we prioritise opportunities for our clients.

LEADING THE WAY

We empower our people to lead the way, nurturing a culture of curiosity and a relentless pursuit of knowledge and continuous learning.

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY, INCLUSION & BELONGING

Reddie & Grose LLP is an equal opportunities employer. It is essential that equality of opportunity and the absence of unfair discrimination be at the core of all the firm’s policies and activities. We value diversity and ensure that all employment decisions are based on merit, competence, and potential. Every individual's uniqueness enhances our collective strength. We are members of IP Inclusive and have been actively involved in Women in IP, IP & ME, IP Out and IP Ability.

THE ROLE

Our life sciences team is made up of specialist hubs through which we can offer our clients tailored services across the entire IP spectrum. This blend of specialism and diversity is recognised as one of our key strengths and has resulted in significant growth in our client base over the last 10 years.

In recent years Reddie & Grose has significantly grown its contentious work practice in the life sciences sector. Whilst the majority of our growth in this area has come from offensive and defensive opposition work before the European patent office, there has also been a significant increase in clients using us for litigation support across Europe and beyond.

To support this growth, we are now looking for a European patent attorney with opposition/ litigation experience to join our life sciences team.

The diverse nature of our client base means that this role will cover a wide range of technologies within the life sciences sector. The role will focus on managing opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO and supporting clients with freedom-to-operate and litigation strategies both nationally and within the UPC. Whilst the role may also include involvement in managing and developing patent portfolios this will not be the focus of your day-to-day work.

This position will also give the successful candidate a chance to advise on supplementary protection certificates and other areas of law that are unique to the pharmaceutical industry.

The position will ideally be based in our European office in Munich, but we are also open to hiring into either of our UK offices in London or Cambridge.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The successful candidate must be a qualified European patent attorney with significant experience in preparing, filing and managing EP opposition proceedings. Experience supporting national or UPC litigation is desirable but not essential.

The role will require you to have a strong pharmaceutical/biotech background either from working in-house or through representing clients in this sector.

It is important that the successful candidate has good communication skills and is able to work as part of a team. We are looking for someone with an open mind who is willing to push the legal norms and is not afraid to take on a challenge.

Reddie and Grose welcomes diversity so whilst English is the firm’s working language, being a native English speaker is not essential; we are a firm believer that the best work product comes from mixing cultures and backgrounds and we strive to reflect this in our teams.

In addition to working with existing clients, you will also be supported in business development activities to help you grow your own practice so any experience you already have in this area would be well received.

This is the perfect opportunity for a qualified European patent attorney who wants greater exposure in the profession and a chance to take their career to the next level. At Reddie & Grose you will play a pivotal role in the development of our life science practice and become an essential part of our team.
