The collaborative research project “High-efficiency laser technology for an inertial fusion power plant combined with state-of-the-art HED diagnostics” (IFUEL) aims to scale Yb:YLF-based solid-state laser technology to high pulse energies (>100 J for nanosecond pulses) while maintaining a high repetition rate (10 Hz). As a first application of this technology, a pulsed plasma source will be developed to enable realistic investigations of plasma–wall interactions as expected in future fusion reactors.

research in the fields of inertial fusion and high energy density physics within the BMFTR project IFUEL under the Fusion 2040 funding program simulate the interaction of laser-generated plasmas with potential wall materials for fusion reactors theoretical support of experiments on corresponding high-energy laser systems at the University of Rostock, the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden–Rossendorf co-supervise students within the project IFUEL publish scientific results

completed scientific university degree (state examination, diploma, master's or comparable degree) in physics with preferably good results doctorate in physics or comparable subject area very good knowledge in the field of plasma physics experience with molecular dynamics simulations experience with radiation-hydrodynamics simulations is desirable good programming skills confident knowledge of written and spoken English communication and teamwork skills for working in international research collaborations
