The laboratory (MatriPath-Lab) of Prof Dr.Dr. Christoph Schell at the Institute of Surgical Pathology, University Medical Center Freiburg, offers following position:

Post-Doc and PhD position – Spatial Biology of Glomerular Kidney Disease (m/f/d)

We are seeking…

… a highly motivated and experienced post-doctoral/PhD researcher with a strong background in spatial biology (e.g. multiplex immunofluorescence, spatial transcriptomics), related analysis and an interest in renal pathophysiology. The laboratory (MatriPath) focusses on dissecting the relevance of cell-matrix interactions in complex renal pathologies employing a broad methods portfolio including in vitro, in vivo and in situ analysis. Within this project, we aim to delineate underlying disease mechanisms in glomerular pathologies using spatial biology approaches combined with functional studies.

The institute offers a broad methods portfolio ranging from state-of-the-art cell culture techniques (CRISPR/Cas9, 3D culture, organoid systems, slice cultures) towards complex imaging modalities (high-plex immunofluorescence). The research at the Institute of Surgical Pathology is highly interdisciplinary and has a strong focus on translational research in oncology and nephrology. You will work on this project in a team with medical students, PhD students, technical assistants and clinician scientists.

Qualifications:

PhD or Masters in Life Sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine)
Strong publication record
Experience with spatial biology methods (e.g. multiplex immunofluorescence, IMC, spatial transcriptomics)
Background in bioinformatics analysis (e.g. Python, R)
Very good scientific writing skills and fluency (both oral and written)

The position (TV-L ,100% for Post-Docs and 65% for PhDs) is funded by the DFG. The position is initially limited to a term of 2 years.
