RAR RC FEMS/Faculty of Physics

Physicist as Post-Doc (f/m/d, No. 447-25)

salary group 13 TV-L

The Research Alliance Ruhr (RAR) is looking for a Post-Doc (f/m/d) for the Research Center Future Energy Materials and Systems (RC FEMS) at the University of Duisburg-Essen in the Faculty of Physics for the newly appointed professorship Functional Ferroic Systems (FFS) at the Duisburg campus at the earliest possible date.

Topic: Controlling emergent electronic properties at ferroelastic domain walls

Interfaces in oxide materials offer amazing opportunities for basic and applied research. Completely new functional properties can arise at the interfaces, ranging from unusual electric order to superconductivity. Ferroic domain walls play a very special role in this context, as they are spatially mobile and can move almost “freely” through the material. This provides the unique opportunity to manipulate their position, density and orientation on demand, enabling electronic signal control at ultra-small length scales.

The aim of this project is to better understand the fundamental physics and structure-property relations in ferroelastic domain walls and to develop novel strategies for property-engineering/optimization to make them technologically usable, with a focus on innovative applications in nanotechnology and unconventional computing.
