Job responsibilities

The

Patent Counsel

protects and strengthens RIMOWA’s innovations and product improvements through robust technical patent rights strategies to ensure RIMOWA’s competitive advantage in an increasingly innovation-driven market. The role particularly includes supporting and advising throughout the entire process up to the registration of technical patents, as well as IP-related contract drafting, review and negotiations (in particular, NDA’s and R&D agreements). Your main tasks will be:

Patent Strategy & Portfolio Management:

Identification of patentable inventions, evaluation of patents, and support for the innovation and development department as a reliable sparring partner for all technical patent issues; draft, review, and file patent applications in collaboration with external Patent Attorney; monitor competitors’ IP portfolios and anticipate legal challenges; conduct patent landscape analyses, patent and prior art researches as well as freedom-to-operate assessments; manage patent prosecution and oppositions across jurisdictions.

Legal Advisory & Contract Management:

Provide strategic legal advice on R&D and innovation projects; ensure compliance with IP laws and international treaties; draft, review and negotiate NDA’s and R&D agreements.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

Partner with innovation and development teams to protect inventions; train business teams on patent law and IP awareness; support patent-related operations management and documentation, in particular employee invention process management; manage external counsel and patent offices.

Enforcement & Litigation

: Oversee patent litigation and enforcement strategies; manage disputes with external counsel and authorities; provide legal support for anti-counterfeiting initiatives. ###

Profile

Either above-average law degree (preferably from German university, but comparable law degrees also acceptable), or successfully completed technical degree. 3+ years relevant professional experience in an industrial company; alternatively experience in a private law firm. In-depth knowledge of IP / patent law; experience in drafting IP-related contracts is desirable. Ideally native German speaker. Business fluent written and spoken English. In addition, in-depth knowledge of French is an advantage. Hands-on mentality and solution-oriented thinking, creativity, initiative, excellent stakeholder management, thorough and efficient working style, strong communication skills, service orientation, and commitment. Strong understanding of economic relationships. Negotiation skills, confident, persuasive manner, and team spirit. ###
