You will be working as Head of Engineering for Platform Teams within the Customer Facing Applications Business Unit of Lounge by Zalando.


As a Head of Engineering you will be accountable for scalability, reliability and general operational excellence of three Platform Teams.


The four teams that you will be accountable for are: Web Platform Team, Mobile Platform Team, Lounge SRE Team and a Product Team that is among others responsible for the Loyalty program at Lounge.


In your role you will be expected to closely collaborate with our Product teams, which we call Squads. These are cross-functional teams that work on various Feature development. These teams are split by different business domains that they are covering and aim to improve the specific customer cohort conversion rate, UX and more.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

Provide technical direction and ongoing leadership for a department dedicated to drive a product in the center of our Platform Strategy. At the same time, you will closely collaborate and be part of the engineering leadership team of the entire Lounge by Zalando. Drive the delivery of a high-performance, resilient and scalable distributed system landscape handling large amounts of data while continuously enabling a high pace of change and innovation by working upstream with development teams. Create and maintain strategic and tactical operations, resource plans, goals, and priorities for your function based on business and technology roadmaps and functional objectives while ensuring the team understands product strategy and technology roadmaps Drive proof of concepts, pilots and technology evaluations to accelerate the onboarding of new technologies and solutions. You drive continuous improvement and lead a group of Engineering Managers overseeing a number of several autonomous delivery teams.

You live and breathe Engineering. Thinking about technical topics is your bread and butter and you have enthusiasm towards software architecture. You have a strong Product Centric mindset. Software Architecture exists only to support the business. We are looking for a person that can build the Technical direction and strategy based on the already defined Product Strategy. Experience in Testing Automation, general QA best practices and overall you find all sorts of testing equally important. You are able to both advocate for testing and to execute its full inclusion in the day-to-day Product development. Experience with building the native Mobile Apps (iOS and Android). Either hands-on or as a part of teams which successfully delivered products in such technologies. Strong affinity for UI development across the platforms (Web and Mobile). You care about the UI and you find it equally important as server side engineering. Previous experience with working with Design Systems is required. When you hear SRE you don’t run away, rather get excited about it. We need a person that embraces the importance of SRE and is informed about the latest and greatest technologies and approaches in the field. Experience in coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution and bringing at least 5 years of people management experience in an agile development environment. Track record in delivering great products on-time and within budget with attention to detail, ability to look at solutions in creative and unconventional ways, recognize opportunities to innovate, and engage stakeholders in vision and strategy.
