Located in Munich’s historic center, South Carolina’s Europe Office is a division of the South Carolina Department of Commerce, a Cabinet agency of the Governor’s office. Our focus is to raise the State of South Carolina’s profile across Europe to actively support our state’s FDI attraction program.

To advance our office’s efforts in continental Europe, we are seeking a dynamic, driven FDI Officer to join our team. This role will focus on attracting, managing, and fostering FDI opportunities, enhancing the State of South Carolina’s international business relations, and promoting economic growth through FDI.

Reporting to the Deputy Managing Director, the ideal candidate will have practical experience in FDI promotion and, preferably, a working knowledge of the many aspects of economic development. This position is key to the business development team, and the incumbent must be open to travel throughout Europe when required.

Position Overview:



Leveraging lead generation and research efforts, the FDI Officer will reach out to companies throughout Europe that have the potential of expanding their presence in the U.S., and encourage them to consider South Carolina, utilizing the following methods:

Serving as an official representative of South Carolina at networking events. Speaking/presenting at seminars and business conferences to promote South Carolina as a location for investment. Nurturing our pipeline of leads in early stages.

Key Responsibilities:



Develop and implement strategies to attract and secure FDI in key sectors: identify, target, and attract major European firms and fast-growing companies to invest in South Carolina. Market research & analysis: conduct thorough research on global markets, industries, and economic trends to identify potential investment opportunities. Investment promotion: represent the organization at international trade shows, conferences, and networking events to promote investment opportunities. Partnership development: develop and maintain strategic partnerships with foreign entities, local businesses, and other stakeholders to support FDI activities. Plan and prepare for trade shows, business missions, and other projects: vetting lists; coordinating with project managers for contacts and leads; arranging event logistics. Reporting: provide regular reports on activities and achievements.

Qualifications & Skills:



Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in international business, economics, business administration, international relations, or a related field, and a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in investment promotion or economic development. Strong analytical and conceptual skills, and proven ability to work promptly and efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships at a senior level. High degree of discretion, ethics, tact, and sensitivity in handling confidential information; ability to maintain a high standard of personal integrity. Excellent command of Microsoft Office-related programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and proficiency in CRM (or related platforms) preferred. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel internationally: overnight and some weekend travel required. Fluency in English and fluency/proficiency in at least one European language. Candidates must be authorized to work in Germany without restriction.
