We're solving humanity's biggest challenge, and it takes everything we've got.
The world needs more energy, not less. Fossil fuels powered our economy for decades, at the cost of our planet. At Phlair, we're inverting that equation with breakthrough electrochemical Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology that pulls CO? from the air for permanent storage or repurposing into carbon-negative chemicals.
We're not here to play it safe. We're here to win.
Why We’re Different?
------------------------
We solve hard problems and are product-first. Our hydrolyzer-based Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, enabling scalable and low-cost CO2 capture from ambient air. The electrochemical technology allows off-the-shelf components and is ideally suited to the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources.
With proven offtake agreements from
customers such as
Google, McKinsey, JPMorganChase, Shopify, Stripe, H&M, and Deep Sky; we're one of only seven DAC companies with real market validation.
Project Dawn
isn't just our flagship; it's our shot to scale CO? removal globally.
Is this a fit for me?
-------------------------
We're building for the 3-5% who are energized by winning and thrive under pressure.
Our pace demands people who see excellence as non-negotiable and execution as everything. We cherish work-life-harmony, not balance. If you need extensive structure or prefer playing it safe, we're probably not the right fit.
Don't tick every box?
We value potential and spikes over perfect resumes. If you believe you can contribute to our mission at this intensity level, tell us why.
Your Mission
----------------
Together with our CSO Steffen, you will work on increasing absorption efficiency of our DAC system through systematic research, experimental validation, and scalable engineering solutions.
Systematically assess and evaluate solvent candidates, analyzing their impact on overall process performance and economics
Research existing literature and explore new methods to identify novel solvent candidates for our screening pipeline
Design, optimize and build experimental absorption test setups and develop improved testing infrastructure
Collaborate closely and iterate with our electrochemical system and pilot teams on sorbent integration
Scale research findings from laboratory to physical absorber units
Conduct experiments with new absorption solvents; analyze absorption results and provide actionable feedback to the research team.
Hands-on prototyping and modification of absorption experiment infrastructure
Your targets are your North Star.
Nothing is set in stone in our world, we adapt fast, but we always hit our goals.
What You Bring
------------------
Non-negotiable:
Master's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with strong background in technical chemistry or chemical engineering
Minimum 3 years of industry experience OR completed PhD/post-doctoral research
Proven experience in chemical process design, optimization, and development
Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus)
Strong theoretical foundation in mass and heat transfer principles
Hands-on experience designing and building experimental setups
Solid understanding of inorganic and organic chemistry fundamentals
Chemical laboratory experience
Mechanically skilled
Essential Traits:
Bias for action
- You prototype, test, and ship while others are still planning
Comfortable with intensity
- 12-hour days and weekend sprints don't scare you, they energize you
Ego second
- You care more about winning than being right
Figure things out independently
- No hand-holding. You own problems end-to-end
Excellence as standard
- Mistakes happen, but mediocrity doesn't
Simplify complexity
- Complex technical concepts become simple explanations in your hands
Product-minded
- You're driven to build real technology from research
Reliable execution
- You think from first principles, solve problems methodically, and deliver consistent results
Bonus Points:
Experience with CO2 absorption systems and heat/mass transfer applications
Real-world process design and scale-up experience
HAZOP experience
How We Work
---------------
In-person matters:
We work fully onsite in Ismaning, Germany. Our pilot plant is here, our breakthroughs happen here, and our team wins here—together.
Goals matter: We do everything to achieve our goals.
If your workstream is the bottleneck, you don't stop.
This isn't about serving hours, it's about hitting goals that matter.
Leadership means showing up and doing the work.
We get that experienced people have more commitments, but championship teams require championship effort.
What You Get
----------------
Competitive salary + meaningful equity
30 vacation days (including 2 recreational leave days)
