Job Description

To strengthen our team, we are looking for an Assay Development R&D Manager (m/f/d).

We are looking for an R&D manager to lead a team of scientists focusing on developing new assays and workflows within the Biomolecular Analysis Division at Agilent Technologies, located in Waldbronn, Germany. We develop differentiated analytical instruments and consumables that are aligned with the Division\'s strategic business goals. The R&D manager will lead a global team of scientists in generating new concepts and developing new products according to Agilent\'s product lifecycle process, and ultimately driving the growth of our business. This person is also responsible for developing the scientific talents in the team by coaching and hiring. In addition, this person will work closely with other functional R&D managers in the engineering field (e.g. mechanical, electrical, firmware or software) to develop total solutions for customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a global team of scientists and drive performance excellence in new product development.
  • Work with the team to generate new concepts and ideas in differentiating assays and total solutions.
  • Drive technology roadmap which supports organization\'s short-term, mid-term, and long-term business strategy.
  • Coach the team in executing New Product Introduction (NPI) projects on time and on budget.
  • Collaborate with program/project managers and other R&D functional managers to ensure appropriate staffing for all projects.
  • Work closely with other functions including marketing, support, manufacturing, quality and finance to drive projects forward.
  • Act as the subject matter specialist in analytical and biological sciences and be a scientific advisor for the R&D team and the business.
  • Establish robust processes in the team in terms of learning, communication and collaboration.
  • Provide regular updates to management, report progress and raise issues. Ensure project hurdles are addressed with management support in a timely manner.
  • Develop the talent pool through hiring and coaching.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in molecular biology, analytical chemistry or related field is required, with Ph.D. or above being preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial R&D experience in new product development through rigorous lifecycle process.
  • Consistent track record in developing novel technologies and differentiating new products (assays, instrumentations, solutions) in the life science industry.
  • Experience in solving complex technical issues and driving solutions for customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in collaboration, negotiation and networking.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management.
  • Strong experience in working with and leading international teams is required.
  • Prior people management experience is strongly desired.
  • Experience in project management is strongly desired.
  • Practical experience with Agilent\'s automated electrophoresis techniques is strongly desired.
