Overview

BIOWEG is seeking an Application Scientist to lead the development of formulations for our natural biodegradable materials. In this role, you will innovate new products and improve existing formulations while ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory and quality standards.

Your Role

Develop and optimise formulations across personal care, home care, pharma, and agri-related segments Design and execute experiments to achieve target performance and rheology Define processing parameters and compatibility matrices for raw materials and actives Develop cost-in-use models to compare performance and efficiency against incumbent products Translate experimental outcomes into application notes, starter formulas, scale-up SOPs, and TDS guidance Perform rheology profiling, particle analysis, surface/colloid characterization, and efficacy testing Build benchmark datasets and dose-to-performance curves for natural and synthetic alternatives Prepare SOPs, test methods, and concise technical reports suitable for internal QA and customer transfer Contribute to regulatory documentation including SDS, questionnaires, and evidence packs for compliance with regulations Define Critical Quality Attributes per SKU and provide feedback to Process and QC for manufacturability and batch release Support Sales and Business Development in translating technical insights into clear application narratives

Your Profile

MSc or PhD in Formulation, Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Colloid Science or similar area At least 5 years hands-on formulation in Personal/Home Care, Pharma and/or Agri with demonstrated DOE-driven optimisation Strong command of rheology, surfactant/polymer colloids, electrolyte/pH effects, dispersion stability and scale-up pragmatics Experience building stability programs and defining practical acceptance criteria; familiarity with CIPAC-style tests for Agri or industry-standard tests for Personal/Home Care Excellent technical communication (reports, TDS, customer presentations) Proficiency with analytical equipment such as Rheometer, Particle Size Analyzer, HPLC and FTIR, etc and ability to interpret data Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Fluency in German is a plus
